Welcome

Cherokee Central Schools School Nutrition Program would like to welcome you to the 2019-2020 School Year!

Our program mission

is to provide each student with a safe, well balanced, nutritious meal free of charge. We provide nutrition education and promote healthy eating habits. We provide healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks so that the students of Cherokee Central Schools are ready to engage in the learning environment that prepares all students to become responsible citizens in a diverse, global society.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Cherokee Central Schools whole-heartedly believes in the importance of this first meal of the day for health and academic success and work to ensure that students in their district eat breakfast each morning. Students who eat breakfast are able to pay attention longer, demonstrate better behavior in the classroom, have improved attendance and less tardiness, and make fewer trips to the school nurse. Meals served as part of the School Breakfast Program at Cherokee Central Schools provide one-fourth or more of the daily recommended levels for key nutrients that children need for growth and development.

Breakfast is served everyday free of charge to all students from 7:30-8:30am.

School meals must, by federal law, meet nutrition regulations based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Meals served as part of the National School Lunch Program provides one-third or more of the daily recommended levels for key nutrients that children need for growth and development. School lunches are an excellent source of protein, vitamins A and C, calcium, and iron. Items offered as part of this program are low in fat, sugar and sodium and high in whole grains, vegetables and whole fruits. All meals are served in portion sizes that are appropriate for your child’s grade level.

Lunch is served everyday free of charge to all students.  Lunch times differ by school.

This year we are excited about increasing the amount of local foods grown and harvested by local farmers to supply our cafeterias with the freshest, locally grown produce from North Carolina. These items will be highlighted on our monthly menus which can be found on our school website.

We are honored to have the opportunity to provide healthy meals to the students, staff and families of Cherokee Central Schools.

We invite you to come enjoy a meal with your child!
